Scripture Marking Saturday: Contentment

Alma 29

1- O that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God, with a voice to shake the earth, and cry repentance unto every people!

Now skip down.

3 - But behold, I am a man, and do sin in my wish; for I ought to be content with the things which the Lord hath allotted unto me.

-----

First of all, if you are going to wish for something... I think that Alma's wish was a pretty good one...

I mean... at least  he wasn't wishing for riches or something.

It was a noble thing that he wanted to do, but still he recognized the fact that he should be content.
Content, because he could still cry repentance, just not with angelic zeal.

He decided to be content, because Alma recognized how blessed he was.

So. Just a thought for you.

Whenever you want something new... or wished something was different in your life... think about how blessed you are and consider all that God has given you.

He's given you more than enough to live happily and healthily and also some other things that you don't need...

Luxuries... things like iPods and cars and... electricity, I suppose.

So when you start wishing for the new iPod...

Just consider that.

And be grateful for what you have.

Scripture Marking Saturday... Sorta.

My last post says that it was published on Saturday, which is true, but it was like 12:30 am when I posted it, so in my head, that was yesterday.

Okay. Normally on Saturdays I would just share a scripture and thought or whatever, but I decided to share a scripture and video, because they are both brilliant reminders for just about anyone...

I think that procrastination is a problem for most people... There are always some things that it is easier to put off, so that is what we do. I definitely don't blame you, as there are always times when we don't use our time wisely...

I wouldn't normally share a Scripture Mastery scripture on Saturdays, because my goal is to introduce you to really good scriptures that aren't as well-known... but I guess this week is the exception. :)

Joshua 24:15 - And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

(This doesn't seem like an anti-procastination scripture, but watch the following video... it will make more sense after.)

So, I suppose the above scripture isn't one that you would read and afterward think, "Okay. I will not procrastinate now."
Like I said, that isn't the first connection that you would make in your head, but I think that this scripture gives counsel on many subjects... You just have to read it enough that those counsels will stand out to you.

I'm sure that when I first read that scripture, I thought about how I would serve the Lord. After watching this video, the words this day also stand out to me. There are certain decisions that you need to make now, and one of them is that you will choose to serve the Lord.
The now part is important, because you may come to a point in your life where you will be tested on this, and if you make a decision now to keep the commandments, you will not even have to hesitate when making the right choice, because your whole life, you have known exactly where you stand on that.

And like he said in the video, we do not know how many days we will have. Choose to do service this day, because you may not have a chance tomorrow.

Hopefully after reading this, you will not only take the lessons that this scripture teaches to heart, but you will also hopefully learn that the scriptures can teach us many different things.
That is why scripture study should be done when you have time to focus and learn from what you are reading. Study every verse thoroughly, and you will get more out of it.

Scripture Marking Saturday

----------
Isaiah 58:9-  Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.
----------

This is a really good scripture that I just recently discovered... I know that God hears our prayers and comforts us.... I know that He is sad when we are. He wants us to be happy and has given us the gospel so that we can be.

I love this song!! Listen!!

Every Word - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Every Word by Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Grooveshark

"I can pray for answers, and I can turn to Him for peace - or just to be heard... And He hears every word!"

PS: How come every time I want to embed a song... I forget how to do it? I mean seriously... this is like the third one I've done, and it takes me forever to figure it out each time! It's not even that hard!

Scripture Marking Saturday... And I'm Still Here!!

Okay to start... I haven't given up on my blog! I know I've mentioned that we don't have internet at my house anymore... I've been trying to post on whatever computer I can get my hands on... This will only last til Christmas! We're getting a new computer then, so there will be plenty more posts coming!

For today... Scripture Marking Saturday...

Alma 34:32- For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors.

Please make sure that you are being proactive while on earth. You really do control your future. If you work hard and prepare, you will absolutely be ready to meet God.

Scripture Marking Saturday

Alright... Time for another scripture to mark.

D&C 88:68- Therefore, sanctify yourselves that your minds become single to God, and the days will come that you shall see him; for he will unveil his face unto you, and it shall be in his own time, and in his own way, and according to his own will.

This scripture tells me that we should sanctify ourselves and be prepared. We never know what is going to happen, but God does. Sometimes His will and our will don't match up. We must always be willing to accept whatever God has in store for us. After all, He can see the whole picture. Remember eternal perspective found here?

This reminds me of a story I just read in the New Era... A girl talks about how you can be led by the spirit in your prayers. While praying, the spirit can tell you what to say so that your will can be the same as God's will. If that doesn't make sense, or if you just want to read the whole story, click
here.

Alright... Hope everyone has a great remainder of their weekend. Leave comments! I'm starting to wonder if there really is anyone out there who is silently reading this blog!

PS: Sorry the links are a little messed up... I'm trying to do this post on a mobile device because our computer broke... I know that it ended up highlighting a lot of text, but if you click on either of the places where it says "here", it should still take you to the right place. :)

Scripture Marking Saturday

Okay... so I've decided to have a once-a-week post just sharing one of my favorite scriptures and some thoughts on it.
If It's a scripture that catches your eye or means something to you, mark it! Remember it! I also invite you to share some of your favorite scriptures in the comment box... the more the merrier!

Here's today's scripture... it is one of my all-time-favorites...

D&C 25:10- And verily I say unto thee that thou shalt lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better.

I think that this scripture has a lot to do with eternal perspective, like I was talking about in this post... I was actually going to use it then, but I forgot... (oops!)
There is a much better world out there. It is the place where God lives, and it is more amazing than you could ever imagine. It is a place that you want to seek for, and you need to seek for.

"Since 'God is love' (1 John 4:8), the closer we approach Him, the more profoundly we experience love. But because a veil separates this mortality from our heavenly home, we must seek in the Spirit that which is imperceptible to mortal eyes."Heaven may seem distant at times, but the scriptures offer hope: 'Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart' (Jeremiah 29:13)."

This scripture reminds me to seek Him and to seek after the blessings of the Celestial Kingdom.

Okay, your turn now. Leave comments! Share your favorite scripture!
I'm also asking for your vote. Which topic do you want me to write about next?
- Obedience
       or
- Individual Worth?

Here's some incentive for you: if nobody votes, I will be writing a long, boring post on the law of chastity! :)
